The ocean is vast, mysterious, and vital to life on Earth. It covers more than 70% of our planet’s surface and produces at least half of the oxygen we breathe. It supports a stunning array of biodiversity—from tiny plankton to majestic whales—and plays a crucial role in regulating our climate.
But this vital ecosystem is under threat.
From pollution and climate change to overfishing and habitat loss, marine life is facing unprecedented challenges. At Coastal Renewal, we know that protecting our oceans isn’t just about removing debris—it’s about empowering people with the knowledge and tools to take meaningful action.
That’s why education is at the heart of everything we do.
Change begins when people understand the problem. Sadly, many communities, especially those closest to coastlines, are unaware of how their daily habits impact ocean health.
At Coastal Renewal, we engage directly with communities through:
Workshops and educational seminars in schools, libraries, and community centers
Youth programs focused on ocean science, sustainability, and hands-on conservation
Public outreach campaigns that make marine protection relatable, visual, and urgent
Volunteer-led cleanup events that teach while doing—showing the real-world impact of plastic pollution and marine debris
We break down complex marine science into real, human stories—connecting people emotionally and practically to the ocean’s well-being. When someone sees a sea turtle tangled in fishing line or a beach littered with plastic after a storm, the message becomes clear: our actions matter.
Over 2,000 marine species are currently listed as endangered or threatened—including sea turtles, whales, sharks, coral, and countless lesser-known creatures essential to ocean balance.
Many people are shocked to learn that:
All seven species of sea turtles are threatened with extinction
One-third of all marine mammals are at risk due to habitat destruction and entanglement
Coral reefs—home to 25% of all marine life—are bleaching and dying due to rising ocean temperatures and pollution
Coastal Renewal works to turn this awareness into action.
We teach communities about the delicate balance of marine ecosystems and how every species—no matter how small—plays a vital role. Through storytelling, visual media, and direct interaction with conservation projects, we help people understand that saving one species helps save an entire system.
And it’s working. Communities we engage with report greater involvement in conservation activities, reduced plastic use, and an increased interest in protecting endangered marine life.
We believe in planting seeds early. Our youth programs are designed to create lifelong advocates for the ocean. These programs include:
“Ocean Explorers” school curriculum tailored for K–12 students
Beach biology field trips that let kids interact with tide pools, marine species, and conservation scientists
Youth Ambassador Programs, where teens take a leadership role in local cleanups, public speaking, and social media outreach
Virtual learning tools, including videos, interactive activities, and downloadable guides for parents and teachers
By connecting young minds to the beauty and fragility of marine life, we’re not just educating—we’re building a movement.
We also partner with marine biologists, ecologists, and educators to ensure our programs are rooted in science—but communicated in a way that inspires, not intimidates.
Our goal is to bridge the gap between knowledge and behavior. It’s not enough to know the oceans are in trouble. We show people what they can do about it:
Reducing single-use plastics
Choosing sustainable seafood
Supporting clean energy initiatives
Participating in citizen science and local restoration projects
Advocating for ocean-friendly policies in their communities
When one person learns how to protect the ocean, they influence others—family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. We’ve seen entire neighborhoods change the way they treat their coastlines after a single Coastal Renewal event.
This ripple effect is how real transformation happens.
It’s not just about cleaning up beaches. It’s about building an ocean-literate society that understands, respects, and protects the marine world.
At Coastal Renewal, we’re committed to education that empowers. Whether it’s a child learning about coral reefs for the first time or a community leader advocating for plastic bans, we believe knowledge is the most powerful tool for ocean conservation.
We invite you to be part of this mission:
🌊 Host an educational event in your town
🌊 Bring Coastal Renewal programs to your local school
🌊 Donate or shop our eco-friendly gear to fund education initiatives
🌊 Share what you’ve learned with others
Together, we can build a world where the ocean is no longer an afterthought—but a priority.
Because when people understand the ocean, they protect it.
